Art is Self Expression is a 30-minute, eight-projector installation created for the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University. This experience transforms the paintings of Carson Waterman into a large-scale immersive environment of motion, light and sound.
Commissioned by St. Bonaventure University and led by Jeremy Speed-Schwartz in consultation with Waterman and members of the Haudenosaunee community, the installation reimagines Waterman’s visual language through digital animation and spatial projection. Original works were digitally segmented, layered and recomposed into expansive animated compositions that unfold across the architecture of the gallery space.
The experience surrounds viewers with evolving imagery drawn from Waterman’s depictions of cultural symbolism and Haudenosaunee identity.
